Infrastructure

In the west of the quarter, especially around Lutherplatz, you can find residential housing construction from the 1920s and 1930s. In the green area in the center of Lutherplatz is the water tower south , a brick-built structure built in 1927/1928. Not far from the water tower, the Catholic Franciscan Church of the Most Holy Trinity was built two years later , an example of experimental church construction after the First World War .

The quarter had also been characterized by diverse industrial architecture since the end of the 20th century. The so-called "Gießerdreieck", an area between Liebenauer Strasse and Turmstrasse, formerly part of the Halleschen Maschinenfabrik, has been built with single-family and terraced houses since 2006. To the south of Lutherplatz between Turmstrasse and Beesener Strasse is the KSB company premises, which have been expanded with the construction of a training center .

The former large-scale industrial buildings of the sugar refinery, the coffee substitute factory Heinrich Franck & Söhne, as well as the malt factory Reinicke & Co. east of Merseburger Strasse were largely converted. The Dell company , a municipal craftsman's yard, sports and service facilities have settled here. Parts of the malt factory are used as apartments.

In addition to residential buildings from the end of the 19th century, such as Loests Hof or the Wilhelminian-style buildings on Huttenstrasse, you will also find public facilities such as the newly built justice center here . The “Ulrich von Hutten” cooperative comprehensive school and five children's facilities are located in the quarter .

A district park with children's playgrounds and sports facilities has emerged from the southern part of the former Thuringian train station . It is part of the so-called Hafenbahntrasse , a pedestrian and cycle path that leads from the main train station to Sophienhafen .
