Landrain is a district of the Halle district in the north of Halle (Saale) in Saxony-Anhalt , which had exactly 3,190 inhabitants in 2015.

geography

Apartment buildings in the district

The Landrain district is located in the south of the northern district. It is named after the east-west running central street Landrain , which connects the district with Giebichenstein's Wilhelminian style quarters in the west and the Frohe Zukunft development in the east. In the center of the district, the Bergschenkenweg branches off to the north , which connects Landrain with the Gottfried-Keller-Siedlung . The continuation of this road continues as a cycle path in the direction of Petersberg . In the south, the Halle – Vienenburg railway line separates the quarter from the Paulusviertel .

In the east of the district there is the Gertraudenfriedhof , which was opened in 1914 to relieve the southern cemetery of Halle.

The north-western part of the quarter is dominated by the rhyolite peaks of the Galgenberge . A large green area with playgrounds and sports fields extends over them. In the past, the natural stone, also known locally as porphyry , was mined here. This left behind steep rock faces and the so-called Galgenberg Gorge, where the Handel Festival concerts take place in summer .

In the north, the quarter is limited by large allotment gardens.

history

The Landrain district was laid out in the GDR in the 1950s and 1960s to create new living space in the north of the city. Before that, the area was arable land. After the fall of the Wall, the quarter was redeveloped and some single-family houses were built.

traffic

The trams of line 1 of the Halleschen Verkehrs-AG touch the east of the quarter . There is also a stop for the S-Bahn Central Germany in the extreme south of the district , here there is a connection to Halle's main train station and Leipzig in one direction, and Halle-Trotha in the other. For further OPNV you have to leave the city quarter, so there is another tram route to Trotha a few hundred meters to the west .

By car you can reach Bundesstraße 100 in the southeast, which connects Halle with Bitterfeld . This can also be used to get to the federal motorway 14 and the A9 . The Dessauer Straße in the east leads to Zörbig , among other places . To the south there is a connection to federal highway 6 and the rest of the city of Halle.
