history

Heide-Süd has only been developed as a district since 1994. The first development is dated to the year 1847, where the royal state sanatorium and nursing home was built in Nietleben . In the 1924 built commercial airport Halle-Nietleben was from 1934 as part of upgrading the armed forces , the Army and Air Force news school built. The military area was then used by the Soviet troops after the Second World War until 1991 . After their withdrawal, the city council decided on the development statute in 1994 to create the district of Heide-Süd. Four years later, the first residential buildings are ready for occupancy.

At the end of the 2010s, the city of Halle examined the idea of a new tram line to the center of Heide-Süd. This would have turned off the existing route on Straßburger Weg and ran south-west to Scharnhorststrasse. The project was abandoned due to protests from local residents who feared a decrease in the value of their property and a deterioration in the traffic situation.
