Björn Thurau (born July 23, 1988 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a former German cyclist .
Athletic career
After Thurau in the junior area a. a. won the overall ranking of the GP Rüebliland in 2006, he joined the Continental Team Atlas-Romer's in-house bakery in 2007 . He received his first contract with a Professional Continental Team in 2008 with the Austrian team Elk Haus-Simplon . In 2010 he competed for the Bundesliga team Bergstrasse U23 before moving to the German Continental team NSP for the 2011 season. This year he was able to win the youth championship at the French stage race Paris-Corrèze .
For the 2012 season he was signed by the French ProTeam Europcar and played his first Grand Tour for this team at the 2014 Giro d'Italia . He was active in three escape attempts and as an assistant to team captain Pierre Rolland , but had to give up the race on the 16th stage with health problems. In the subsequent Tour de Suisse he secured a. a. the mountain classification through a long escape on the second stage .
After driving for the Professional Continental Teams Bora-Argon 18 and Wanty-Groupe Gobert in the 2015 and 2016 seasons , the all-rounder joined the Continental Team Kuwait-Cartucho.es in 2017 and won for this team at the Tour of Qinghai Lake , third place overall in a race in the hors category . After a season with Team Holdsworth, he became a member of the Continental Team Vito Feirense Blackjack, which belongs to the Portuguese second division football club CD Feirense .
After the end of the 2019 season, he ended his sporting career because he saw no more chance of doing professional cycling above Continental teams. Since the beginning of 2020, he has been moderating the German-language branch GCN in German , a YouTube video channel, together with Mario Vogt .
