Carl Wilhelm Zimmermann

Carl Wilhelm Zimmermann (born October 3, 1782 in Darmstadt ; † September 14, 1856 there ) was a politician of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and President of the entire ministry.

Life

His parents were the president of the finance chamber Ernst Wilhelm Zimmermann (1752-1820) and his wife Sophie Louise Sabine Friederike von Hert (1759-1826).

Zimmermann studied law and was director of the main state treasury of the Grand Duchy of Hesse from 1821 and Ministerialrat in the Ministry of Finance from 1830. In 1844 he became a Privy Councilor of State and was President of the Grand Ducal Ministry of Finance from 1845 to 1848 and Minister of Finance from March to November 1848 as a result of the March Revolution . Between June and July of this year he was also President of the Ministry as a whole (Prime Minister). From November 1848 to April 1856 he was President of the Council of State.

From 1847 to 1849 he was a member of the first chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

He married Johanna Margarethe Fritsch (1790–1871) in Darmstadt on September 13, 1808. Their daughter Emma (1809–1887) married the Grand Ducal Hessian secret finance councilor Heinrich Rothe (1794–1848). Their son Karl Rothe also became Minister of State in the Grand Duchy of Hesse. The daughter Marie (1818-1901) married the later Prussian Lieutenant General Kasimir von Dewall in 1845 .
