Jakob Finger

Jakob Finger (born January 13, 1825 in Monsheim , † January 30, 1904 in Darmstadt ) was Minister of State of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

education and profession

Jakob Finger studied law at the universities of Berlin , Heidelberg and Giessen from 1841 . In Gießen he was a member of the Corps Rhenania in 1843 and in 1844 a member of the Allemannia Gießen fraternity . After stints at the Oberingelheim Peace Court (1850) and the Alzey (1851) and Oppenheim (1854) district courts , Finger settled as a lawyer in Alzey in 1855 and later in Darmstadt. In 1872 he joined the Ministry of Interior and Justice as a ministerial advisor.

politics

From 1862 Jakob Finger was a member of the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse for the German Progressive Party for the constituency of Worms . From 1872 to 1884 he was Ministerialrat at the Hessian Ministry of the Interior and Justice. From May 1884 he became Minister of State of the Grand Duchy of Hesse, Minister of the Grand Ducal House, the Interior and Justice. In 1898 he retired.

On February 4, 1899, the Grand Duke appointed him a lifelong member of the first chamber of the estates. On November 5, 1903, his departure from parliament was approved.

family

Jakob Finger was the son of the farmer and miller Daniel Finger (1800–1869) and Marie Finger, nee Möllinger. On November 25, 1854, he married in Alzey Marie Millet (1830–1914), the daughter of the Hessian MP Jakob Millet . From this connection u. a. the son Hermann Finger (1864–1940), professor of chemistry at the TH Darmstadt. Jakob Finger was a Mennonite .

Honors

In 1895 Jakob Finger was awarded the Dr. hc honored. in the same year he became an honorary citizen of Worms .
