Georg Hallwachs

Georg Ludwig Anton Friedrich Hallwachs (born August 8, 1788 in Darmstadt , † April 4, 1843 in Mainz ) was a liberal Hessian politician and member of the Second Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Georg Hallwachs was the son of the Hessian court councilor Johann Karl Georg Hallwachs (1751–1797) and his wife Maria Katharina nee Wagner (1763–1794). The later Minister Wilhelm Hallwachs and Friedrich Hallwachs were his brothers. Georg Hallwachs, who was a Protestant denomination, married Dorothea Marie, born Borgnis, divorced Cavalli (1792–1855) on September 8, 1831 in Mainz.

Georg Hallwachs studied law in Giessen and Heidelberg and became an assessor at the Darmstadt court in 1811, where he became court judge in 1813. In 1830 he became a member and councilor at the Mainz Higher Court, where he became vice-president in 1841. Hallwachs was accepted into a Heidelberg Masonic lodge in 1809 and joined the Darmstadt lodge Johannes the Evangelist for Eintracht in 1816 .

politics

In the 5th electoral term (1832-1833) he was a member of the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse. In the estates he represented the constituency of the city of Worms . His election to the Chamber was the subject of an election test. The background was that Georg Hallwachs had been suspended from his judicial office for three months by the court court for participating in a duel . The liberal majority in the committee and the state parliament assessed this as a disciplinary punishment. Had it been a criminal conviction, Hallwachs would not have been eligible for election under the constitution.
