Marcus Edinger

Marcus Edinger (born August 16, 1820 in Worms ; † June 14, 1879 there ) was a Hessian textile manufacturer and a member of the 2nd Chamber of the Estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse .

Marcus Edinger was the son of the businessman and councilor Ludwig Edinger and his wife Franziska Edinger. Edinger, who was of Jewish faith, married Hochstaedter, born in Worms Julie, on June 11, 1854 (* in Karlsruhe; † 1894), the daughter of the hospital doctor in Karlsruhe, Dr. med. Hochstaedter. The following children were born from the marriage:

  • Emilie Riesser, née Edinger, married the banker and professor Jacob Riesser . Despite her conversion to the Protestant faith, she was murdered by the National Socialists in 1944 as a very old widow
  • Ludwig Edinger (1855–1918), neurologist, professor in Frankfurt am Main

Edinger was a merchant and textile manufacturer in Worms. After a commercial apprenticeship in Frankfurt am Main , he and his brother took over the father's business. He expanded the company into the first clothing factory in Worms. He was socially committed and co-founder of associations for workers' education and welfare. In 1860, the Edinger initiator, known personally through Schulze-Delitzsch, was part of the establishment of the advance payment and credit association in Worms. He was a member of the board of directors of the Jewish community in Worms .

In the March Revolution of 1848 he was active on the side of the democratic politicians. From 1861 to 1878 he was a member of the Worms municipal council. From 1865 to 1878 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was elected for the constituency of Worms .
