Johann Friedrich Eich (politician)

Johann Friedrich Eich (born February 6, 1812 in Worms ; † August 25, 1879 there ) was a councilor, theologian, teacher, member of the II. Hessian Chamber of Deputies and an honorary citizen of the city of Worms.

Life

His father was a surgeon from Kirchberg; his mother came from Worms. After attending secondary school in Worms , he passed the Matura exam in Mainz . From 1830 on he studied Protestant theology at the Hessian Ludwig University . He became a member of the Old Giessener Burschenschaft Germania (1830), the Corps Starkenburgia (1832), the Corps Palatia Giessen (1833) and the Corps Rhenania Heidelberg (1833). In 1843 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD .

Act

Eich was between November 30, 1844 and December 1, 1866, at the request of the municipal council, a teacher at the Worms grammar school. Between the years 1848 and 1849 he was chairman of the Worms Citizens' Association. At a meeting of the association in 1849, he expressed his regret that Austria unfortunately had to be separated from Germany. As chairman of the citizens' association, he was an opponent of the liberal Ferdinand von der Loehr, who was particularly pleased that Eich got into a dispute with Johann Andreas Kranzbühler, the publisher of the Wormser Zeitung, which is considered liberal .

From 1848 he wrote the main leading articles in the Wormser Zeitung and from 1851 to 1856 he represented the city of Worms in Chamber II of the Grand Ducal Hessian Parliament in Darmstadt.

In Worms, he was particularly involved in the following areas:

  • Construction of the Worms ship bridge over the Rhine
  • Expansion of the Worms railway connection (including the construction of the Riedbahn and the further expansion of Worms as a railway junction)
  • Construction of the Luther memorial

After the inauguration of the Luther memorial on June 25, 1868, he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Worms.

The United casino and Musical Society Worms was Eich 1860-1862 before as president.

From 1851 to 1856 he was a member of the Second Chamber of the Estates. He was elected for the constituency Rheinhessen 8 / Worms . He was a city councilor and honorary citizen in Worms.

Eich died on August 25, 1879 in Worms. His honor grave was reburied in 1958 from the Rheingewannfriedhof to the Hochheimer Höhe cemetery.
