Friedrich von Lindelof

Friedrich Levin Freiherr von Lindelof (born July 10, 1794 in Oldenburg , † May 16, 1882 in Darmstadt ) was Prime Minister of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and Professor of Law .

education and profession

From 1811, von Lindelof studied law at the universities of Heidelberg , Dijon and Paris . In Heidelberg he became a member of the Corps Guestphalia I Heidelberg. After his doctorate and habilitation in 1816, he taught as a private lecturer at the University of Göttingen . On February 22, 1823 he became a full professor at the University of Giessen .

In addition to his teaching activities, von Lindelof made a career in administration. In 1818 he was employed as an assessor in the Oldenburg law firm, and in 1830 he moved to the Grand Duchy of Hesse as an appellate judge. There he was Ministerialrat in 1838, Director of the Ministry of Justice in 1847 and President of the Ministry of Justice in 1853.

On December 26, 1858, Friedrich Lindelof was appointed Minister of Justice in the government of the Grand Duchy of Hesse and remained in this office until September 12, 1872. From April 6, 1871 to September 13, 1872 he was under Grand Duke Ludwig III. Prime Minister and Foreign Minister. From June 6, 1860 he was also President of the State Council.

Honors

On August 25, 1862, Friedrich von Lindelof was raised to the nobility .
