The Gruber Forst nature reserve is a 377 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , which was designated on September 7, 1990. It is located south of Teterow , not far east of Hohen Demzin and is part of the Mecklenburg Switzerland and Kummerower See nature park . The eponymous place Grube is located in the middle of the protected area.

The nature reserve is part of the FFH area of forest and small water bodies south of Teterow .

A forest area that is criss-crossed by damp depressions is protected. The state of the area is assessed as good. Old trees north of the village of Grube can develop without disruptive use interventions. The grassland areas are promoted as nature conservation-appropriate grassland use.

An overland path leads to Grube and provides a glimpse into the areas.

Flora and fauna

A mixed forest dominated by red beech takes up a large part of the area. Common ash is found on slopes . Willows and alders are typical tree species in damp locations. In the western part there is an extensive alder quarry. Another quarry forest complex can be found in the northern part of the area. Notable breeding birds in the area are the spotted eagle , corncrake , spotted rail , redshank , honey buzzard , crane , stock dove , wryneck , middle woodpecker , red backed and little grebe . Dormouse and noctule bat are representatives of mammals.
