Setup date 1990

The Dammer Postmoor nature reserve is a 235 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, one kilometer north of Altkalen . The eponymous place Damm is not far to the southeast. It was placed under protection on September 7, 1990. The area was expanded in 2000. The protected area comprises a forest and moor landscape, which, due to its remote location and lack of disturbance, is a valuable habitat for rare species.

The current state of the area is assessed as satisfactory because the water balance of the areas is disturbed. A hiking trail from Damm to Alt-Pannekow allows you to cross the areas.

history

The protected area is embedded in a ground moraine landscape. Use has been proven by clearing since the Middle Ages. Extensive wood extraction also took place in the 17th century through the operation of a glassworks. The formerly open Dammer See was fished until the beginning of the 20th century. Between 1915 and 1917, French prisoners of war drained the lake and moor so that grassland farming could be carried out on the land. This use was abandoned after ten years and the areas became waterlogged. Afforestation with conifers (spruce, larch) took place after the Second World War to compensate for reparation blows.

Flora and fauna

Beech forests grow on drier locations. Forests with alder , ash and oak can be found on the moister bog locations. Lesser spotted eagles , spotted railing , cranes , puffy titmouse , stock dove, and miniature flycatcher live in the reserve .
