The Nebel nature reserve is an 846 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania between the towns of Kuchelmiß , Hoppenrade and Klueß. The designation took place on April 5, 1989 with an extension in 1995 and aims to preserve a largely unobstructed valley section of the Nebel flowing water over a length of 18 kilometers and the adjacent forest and meadow areas. The state of the area is classified as good, as the natural dynamics of the water body have been preserved or have been restored following renaturation work in recent years. It is also important in the future to minimize nutrient and pollutant inputs from settlements and areas used for agriculture and fishing in order to enable undisturbed development. Several hiking trails allow a tourist development. The watermill near Kuchelmiß and the breakthrough valley north of Lake Krakow are well worth seeing .

The European Union classified the areas as FFH and bird protection areas and thus included them in the Natura 2000 network.

history

The fog was created during the last glaciation over 10,000 years ago as a drainage path for meltwater. The dynamics of the water led to the breakthrough of the terminal moraine of the Pomeranian Ice Rim and formed today's breakthrough valley. Monks created fish ponds near Serrahn , which were used until the GDR era. The steep gradient for a flatland river allowed the operation of up to four water mills . In the fen areas was peat and bog iron ore mined. The Wiebeking map from 1786 shows arable and forestry on mineral soils as well as meadow and pasture use on the bog sites. Today's management is limited to extensive pasture use. Moist locations are unused.

Flora and fauna

Along the stream are reed and sedge-rich wet meadows and alder forests.

The Nebel is the habitat and reproductive space of particularly protected and endangered species of fish and birds, dragonflies, mussels, snails, crabs, amphibians and numerous plant species. The high flow rate and good water quality lead to the occurrence of fish species such as lamprey , minnow , loach , loach , grayling and brown trout . Kingfisher , dipper , white owl and gray wagtail breed in the area .
