The Großes Holz nature reserve is a 20 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The nature reserve was designated on May 1, 1957 and expanded in 1961. The protection objective is to obtain an unexploited melic - beech forest with small-leaved lime and oak in a block-rich moraine . The area is a representative study object for succession dynamics, as the beeches are in the decay stage at an age of 220 years . The heights of the terminal moraine range with the Rauhen Berg and the Schwieneger Berg reach 95.5 m above sea level. NHN . Surrounding villages are Kuchelmiß three kilometers northwest and Langhagen northeast.
The state of the area is considered to be very good.
With the exception of an unpaved forest path from Wilsen, there are no public roads in the area.
Flora and fauna
Due to the high proportion of old wood, the area has a high biodiversity. Woodpeckers and white-tailed eagles as well as cranes and dormice live in the area. Years of research into the bird world have led to the detection of black woodpeckers , small woodpeckers , summer and winter golden chickens and cuckoos .
