Beketal nature reserve

The Beketal nature reserve is a 96 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . It was designated on August 15, 1995 with the aim of preserving the unspoilt valley of the Kleine Beke . The impact and sliding slopes, gravel banks, precipices and scour areas as well as old forest areas accompanying the stream offer habitats for numerous animal and plant species. The protected area is located 22 kilometers west of Schwaan between the village of Gnemern and Landstrasse 11. It is named after the Beke stream , into which the Kleine Beke flows at Klein Belitz and which in turn flows into the Warnow to the east .
The state of the area is considered to be good, with nutrient inputs from the surrounding agricultural areas after heavy rain.
Between Gnemern and Groß Gischow, a hiking trail runs through the green bike along the southern bank.
The areas belong to the FFH area Beketal with tributaries .
history
Since 1662 the land had been owned by the von Meerheimb family , who lived in the moated castle in Gnemern. The mixed deciduous forest that exists today is already shown in Wiebeking's map in 1786. From 1945 onwards, the land was divided up as part of the land reform and extensive deforestation was carried out. From 1958, some areas were reforested with spruce and larch. Grassland areas in the western part of the reserve are extensively grazed.
Flora and fauna
The marsh marigold is often found accompanying the stream . Various species of fish that are worthy of protection live in the brook, such as the brook lamprey and the loach . There are also occasional sea and brown trout . Notable bird species are kingfisher , dipper and gray wagtail . In the higher areas of the Green Wheel, dead wood provides habitats for dormice and black woodpecker .
