The Bockhorst nature reserve is a 64 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. It was placed under protection in 1994 and is located about one kilometer east of the city of Güstrow . The state of the area is good, although the current biodiversity would be displaced by the succession after many years of military use without maintenance measures . According to EU law, the nature reserve is designated as part of the Bockhorst FFH area.
history
On the Wiebeking map of 1786 the area is marked as completely forested. This is possibly where the name Bockhorst, which means beech forest in Low German, comes from. The areas were cleared and grazed in the 19th century. In addition, small areas of gravel were mined. Military use of the area began in 1930 and lasted until 1991. The areas served as a tank training area and impact point for tank shells, for which numerous evidence can still be found today. There was no agricultural use, although in recent years the areas have been grazed with rear cattle and Konik horses for maintenance purposes .
Flora and fauna
In the area come dwarf shrub-wet heaths with the characteristic species Erica , ordinary milkwort and Devil's front. In addition to small bodies of water, various types of meadows in the dry and humid milieu can be found, such as grasslands , grass grass and pipe grass meadows . As part of the natural development of the area, the meadows are replaced by bushes such as broom .
Typical breeding birds in the open landscape are partridge , whinchat , black warbler , wagtail and red-backed killer . Furthermore, butterflies with butterflies such as the little ox-eye , comma thick-headed butterflies , plantain pied butterflies and purple forest blue as well as grasshoppers with the endangered wart-biter are to be highlighted.
