The Ahrenshäger See nature reserve is a 41- hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, three kilometers northeast of Krakow am See . It was placed under protection on October 1, 1990. The protected area includes Lake Ahrenshäger with an adjacent silting belt and a moor on the north bank of Lake Krakow .
The current state of the area is assessed as good. The occasional - unauthorized - fishing use has a disruptive effect. The lake shore can be viewed from the Krakow – Teterow road, which borders the lake immediately to the north. Information boards provide information about the area.
The nature reserve is part of the FFH area Nebeltal with tributaries, connected lakes and adjacent forests .
history
The Ahrenshäger See goes back to an isolated dead ice shape that was formed during the last ice age. It is a spring lake that is fed by calcareous groundwater and today has water depths of up to eight meters. On Wiebeking's map from 1786, an inflow from a northern moor is recorded. This was filled in by the road construction. A settlement on the north-eastern shore of the lake was abandoned over time. In the 1960s, spruce trees were occasionally planted on mineral sites . The lake is regularly used by fishermen.
Flora and fauna
The nutrient-poor lake still has extensive ground lawns with chandelier algae . A narrow wooded border with alder , birch and willow surrounds the lake. The moor in the western part of the area is covered with swamp porst , alder, birch, peat moss , cranberry , swamp calla , trunkberry and bilberry . Large stocks of water springs are found in drainage ditches. Oak and hazel grow on the mineral soil , as well as beech and pine trees on the surrounding slopes . Breeding birds in the area are middle spotted woodpecker , black woodpecker and lesser spotted woodpecker , stock dove , wood warblers , nuthatches , grosbeak , treecreeper and mourning and red-breasted flycatcher . Water bat and dormouse are representatives of the mammals.
