The Entenmoor Moitin nature reserve is a nature reserve in the Carinerland municipality in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania . The protected area was designated on July 26, 1979, expanded in 1995 and covers an area of 31 hectares. Surrounding places are Alt Poorstorf , Klein Muslow and Höltingsdorf .

The protection goal is the preservation of a dammed boiler moor and the maintenance of the adjacent grassland areas. The duck bog is an important habitat for bird life. The state of the area is classified as good. Maintenance measures, such as extensive grazing and pruning of wood, prevent the settlement of wood and preserve the state of the area.

According to EU law, the areas are classified as FFH and bird protection areas.

From a hiking trail along the surface, glimpses of the nature reserve are possible.

History and water balance

The areas were created during the last ice age as dead ice forms in a terminal moraine . In the following millennia a boiler bog developed, which reached a peat thickness of up to six meters. In the 18th century, the originally run-off area was drained in the direction of Hellbach in order to enable the land to be used as arable land and grassland, although this was only possible to a limited extent. During the GDR era, drainage was intensified in 1977 by deepening the trenches, but then stopped when the protected area was designated. The areas are currently not being drained. The water level of the lake rose in the past.

Flora and fauna

Reeds made of reeds and cattails as well as willow bushes line the lake. The islands are made up of large sedge peace.

The area achieves its high nature conservation significance through the occurrence of numerous bird species, some of which are threatened. A colony of black-headed gulls with several hundred breeding pairs , in whose protection common terns breed, should be emphasized . Regularly continue to breed hood , Rothals- and little grebe , gray goose , mute swan and duck species such as Stock- , Gadwall , Spoon , Tableware and tufted duck . Limikoles in the area are lapwing , little ringed plover , snipe and redshank . Numerous amphibian species occur.
