The Breeser See nature reserve is a 163 hectare nature reserve in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, one kilometer east of Lohmen . It was placed under protection on August 7, 1974. The protected area includes Lake Brees with the adjacent silting belt.
The current state of the area is assessed as satisfactory. High nutrient inputs into the lake during the GDR era still have negative effects and lead to problematic algae blooms. Entering the areas is only possible on the east bank, where there is also an observation pulpit.
history
The Breeser See goes back to a dead ice shape that was formed during the last ice age. It is a spring lake that is fed by calcareous groundwater. Extensive lime muds were deposited. After the lake level fell in the 19th century, the edge areas were used as grassland and peat was cut. The areas were hardly used during the GDR era. From the 1970s, the condition of the clear water lake, which had been oligotrophic up to then, deteriorated due to nutrient inputs. Digested sludge was deposited. Currently the lake is 1.5 meters deep. The Bresenitz flows through it in the south . For centuries people have fished in the lake with fish traps and draw nets .
Flora and fauna
The original ground lawn with candelabrum algae can still be found in places. Other types of underwater flora are pondweed , Canadian waterweed , horn leaf , great mermaid and spring moss . The lake is surrounded by a reed belt of reeds , to which Schwingriede adjoin on the north and west banks with amperes , swamp fern , pseudocypus sedge , hemlock and bittersweet nightshade . The abandoned meadows host rare species such as marsh-sitter , Steifblättriges orchid , marsh lousewort , Parnassus , adder's tongue , cumin Silge , Linum Catharticum and Viola hirta . A swamp forest with alder, birch and willow connects to the west and east.
The sanctuary is an important resting and sleeping place for white- fronted , gray and bean geese . The bittern , crane , lapwing , little ringed plover , common snipe and woodcock breed here. The breeding grounds of a bearded tit colony are hidden in the reed belt . The otter lives in the area.
