Heinrich Wessel (born May 23, 1838 in Itzehoe ; † June 2, 1905 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German businessman and entrepreneur in the cement industry.

biography

Heinrich Wessel was a son of the doctor Johann Wessel in Itzehoe. He received a liberal upbringing based on humanistic ideals . After the father's death, the family with five children was torn apart and the children were placed with different foster families.

Wessel completed a commercial apprenticeship and in 1866 joined Gustav Alsen's Portland cement factory in Itzehoe as a partner . A year later, when the company in the general partnership Alsen'sche Portland Cement factory was converted, he took over the commercial management, which he retained until his death. Wessel held a 15 percent stake in the company's capital.

Heinrich Wessel was also a member of the management of the Itzehoer gas company

In 1899 Wessel acquired the knightly estate Pohnstorf near Teterow. Here he left a mausoleum, which is now a protected monument, for himself and his wife Julia Theresa, born in Ireland . Build Nugent († 1908). He founded the Heinrich Wessel Foundation to endow the old people's home in Itzehoe.
