Březno (German Priesen ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic .
Geographical location
The village is located in northern Bohemia in the North Bohemian Basin on the Hutná ( Saubach ), seven kilometers south of Chomutov ( Komotau ).
history
Archaeological finds indicate a settlement in the time of 2400 BC. BC to 2200 BC Chr. The first written mention took place in 1281, when Chotěboř von Radčice donated the place to the Teutonic Knight Order . Until 1440 the village changed hands several times, then came to Rothenhaus and thus belonged to the Lobkowitz family . In 1469 the place was raised to town by Georg von Podiebrad . After the battle of the White Mountains , the city was destroyed, on September 25, 1623, taken from its owner Otto Borin and then sold by the royal treasury to Mrs. Magdalena Proyin. As a result of the destruction, the place became impoverished. The population lived mainly from agriculture and civil trades.
The Church of St. Peter and Paul was demolished in 1757 at the instigation of the former owner Michael von Martinitz, completely rebuilt by him and inaugurated on May 8, 1763 by the Prague Auxiliary Bishop Johann Andreas Kayser .
Mining of ores and coal began in the 19th century.
On February 4, 1871 Priesen received a train station on the Prague – Komotau line . Later there was a direct connection to Karlsbad and Eger via a branch line . A further distance served to direct traffic to for a few years Pilsen . However, this route only existed from 1873 to 1879. Today, the Březno u Chomutova station is primarily a freight station.
Until 1918 there were fewer than twenty Czechs living in Priesen, but their proportion has grown steadily since Priesen was added to the newly created Czechoslovakia in 1919 after the First World War . After the Munich Agreement Priesen belonged from 1938 to 1945 for the district of Chomutov , Region of Usti nad Labem , in the Reich District of Sudetenland the German Reich . After the Second World War , the German population was expropriated and expelled . The empty houses were assigned to Czech families. In 1961 the construction of the dam for the Nechranice reservoir began south of the village .
The area of the Nástup – Tušimice opencast mine has meanwhile reached the railway line on the western edge of the town, coming from the west. This means that the dredging extends up to just under a kilometer from the town center.
Demographics
Until 1945 Priesen was mostly populated by German Bohemia , which were expelled.
