history
Numerous finds show that the area was settled in prehistoric times. In the early Stone Age there was an important intersection nearby. One path led from Soběsuky via Chbany to Rubín Castle near Podbořany and in the Chban area a path turned off to Hořetice , Velemyšleves and on to Most .
According to the local lore of Saaz from 1904, Chbany is one of the oldest communities in the region, even if the first written mention dates back to the 15th century. In the register of September 9, 1422, the Saaz councilor Hermannus de Chban is mentioned. In 1454 the historical sources list the place in villa Chbanech , 1623 Cuan and later Kwon or Qwon .
The Slavic name was derived from the second case of the city of Cheb (old Czech ze Chba ). It is believed that these residents came from Cheb. This is also confirmed by the fact that the area was originally owned by the Waldsassen monastery of Cheb, who colonized this area under the Cistercians .
Chbany and the surrounding villages were badly affected by the Hussite Wars . Saaz took the side of the Hussites , while Chomutov and with it Chbany were on the side of the Catholics .
Chbany is in a fertile area where all types of grain thrive, and hops are also grown. Before the First World War , Chbany was a small village with a small, irregular village center surrounded by a pond that was later converted into a fire service water reservoir.
There have been important changes since 1960. Through district division, Chbany came from the former Okres Žatec to Okres Chomutov . In 1961 the construction of the Nechranice reservoir began , which supplies the region with process water. In the formerly driest region of the Czech Republic, there is now a water surface of over 13 km². The drainage of the Eger water began in October 1964 and construction was completed in 1968. Six villages Běšice , Čermníky , Dolany , Drahonice , Chotěnice and Lomazice remained under the water surface . Three of them, Dolany, Drahonice and Lomazice were districts of Poláky.
New housing options had to be made available for the residents of the flooded villages, for which Chbany was selected. In order to guarantee the supply, a school, post office, trade center, health center, a new sewer system and water supply were built in addition to apartments.
