The Březno u Chomutova – Kadaň-Prunéřov railway was a single-track main line in today's Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the Buschtěhrad Railway Company (BEB) as part of the national railway connection from Prague to Eger . It ran from Březno u Chomutova ( Priesen ) to Kadaň - Prunéřov ( Kaaden-Brunnersdorf ) and was abandoned in 1961 because of an open -cast brown coal mine.

history

On June 3, 1868, the Buschtěhrad Railway Company received a law permit to build a railway from Prague via Saaz and Komotau to the royal Saxon border to connect to the Chemnitz-Annaberger Railway and with a winged railway into the Rakonitz coal district, then from Priesen via Karlsbad to Eger and Franzensbad .

The line between Priesen and Kaaden-Brunersdorf was opened on November 9, 1871. Initially, however, only freight trains ran. Only after the opening of the continuous connection to Eger on December 9, 1871 was passenger traffic started.

On July 10, 1876, passenger traffic was given up again in favor of the route via Komotau. Only after the turn of the century did passenger trains run again. The 1918 timetable shows two pairs of trains between Priesen and Kaaden-Brunnersdorf, which covered the entire route in 28 minutes.

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in autumn 1938, the line came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Dresden . The connection was now included in the Reich curriculum as KBS 167k Kaaden-Brunnersdorf-Priesen. After the end of the Second World War , the line came back to the ČSD.

In 1961 traffic was stopped because of the expansion of lignite mining between Kadaň and Chomutov and the route was broken off a little later. In the meantime, the former route through the Nástup – Tušimice opencast mine has been dredged over.
