Johann Andreas Kayser von Kaysern (also: Johann Andreas Kaiser von Kaisern ; Czech: Jan Ondřej Kayser z Kaysernu ; born  November 29, 1716 in Wegstädtl ; † May 5, 1776 ) was Bishop of Königgrätz .

Career

Nothing is known about its origin. As an alumne of the St. Wenceslas Seminary, he studied in Prague and in 1734 acquired the academic degree of Dr. phil. He was ordained a priest in 1739, was then chaplain for several years, from 1747 pastor of Klecany and from 1751 dean in Friedland . In 1755 he was elected to the Prague cathedral chapter and worked as a German preacher at St. Vitus Cathedral . After he became a diocesan councilor and did his best to secure the cathedral at the Battle of Prague in 1757, Archbishop Manderscheid-Blankenheim appointed him his vicar general in 1757 . In 1759 he became a cathedral scholastic and dean in Altbunzlau . Pope Clement XIII. appointed him on March 3, 1760 titular bishop of Themiscira and auxiliary bishop in Prague, where two years later he was also dean of St. Apollinaris .

Bishop of Königgrätz

After the death of Bishop Hermann Hannibal von Blümegen from Königgrätz , Empress Maria Theresa appointed Johann Andreas Kayser von Kaysern as his successor in her capacity as Queen of Bohemia on May 14, 1775, and shortly thereafter elevated him to the knighthood. On October 15, 1775 he took possession of his diocese, issued new regulations for the diocesan administration and appointed Johann Prokop von Schaffgotsch , the later Bishop of Budweis , as his vicar general and official . He intended to increase the number of parishes and chaplains in his district.

A serious illness soon ended his pastoral endeavors. After his death he was buried in the Königgrätzer cathedral, to which he bequeathed half of his fortune. He reserved the other half for the poor.
