Johann Franz Christoph von Talmberg (also: Johann Franz Christoph von Thalenberg ; Czech: Jan František Kryštof z Talmberka ; * December 31, 1644 in Rataje nad Sázavou ; † April 3, 1698 at Chrast Castle ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Königgrätz .

Life

His parents were Franz Wilhelm von Talmberg , royal Bohemian judge and district chief of the Tschaslauer Kreis and Ursula Katharina, née. from Pappenheim . Little is known about his training. After ordination in 1669, he was canon and German cathedral preacher at St. Vitus Cathedral and dean of St. Apollinaris in Prague. In addition, he received canons in Olomouc and Wischkowitz ( Výškovice ) and the provost's office for All Saints' Day at Prague Castle .

Emperor Leopold I nominated Johann Franz Christoph von Talmberg to succeed Johann Friedrich von Waldstein , Bishop of Königgrätz , who had become Archbishop of Prague . The papal confirmation took place on October 19, 1676, the episcopal ordination by his predecessor on January 3, 1677 in St. Vitus Cathedral . Since Königgrätz did not yet have a bishop's residence, Talmberg was only introduced into Königgrätz on October 23, 1677 at the urging of the Pope.

Although the diocese's financial situation was very limited, Talmberg succeeded in converting the former house of the Gallas family into a bishop's residence. However, in 1686 he tried in vain to transfer his residence to the old burgrave office and the old castle. It was also not possible to build a seminary and canons' apartments, as the city of Königgrätz did not want to renounce its privileges. Nevertheless, Talmberg managed to set up a diocesan administration and visit his diocese for the first time. After his death he was buried in the Margaret Church in Podlažice , which he had built .
