Johann Adam Wratislaw von Mitrowitz (also: Johann Adam Reichsgraf Wratislaw von Mitrowitz ; Czech: Jan Adam hrabě Vratislav z Mitrovic ; * May 20, 1677 in Chotoviny ; † June 2, 1733 in Mödling , Lower Austria ) was bishop of Königgrätz and of Leitmeritz as well appointed Archbishop of Prague .

Life

His parents were Wenzel Adalbert Wratislaw von Mitrowitz, head of the Bechiner circle , and Veronika, née. by Rziczan. His younger brother Johann Joseph Wratislaw von Mitrowitz was Bishop of Königgrätz and the brothers Johann Augustin and Johann Wenzel also exercised spiritual professions.

Johann Adam Vratislav of Mitrowitz studied in Prague philosophy and canon law and then went on a grand tour on which he came to Rome. 1702 earned the academic degree of Dr. phil. and was on April 15th. J. ordained a priest even though he had not graduated from formal theology. As a Prague canon and Czech cathedral preacher , he became clergyman councilor and assessor in the diocesan administration in 1703 , provost in Altbunzlau in 1707 and cathedral scholaster in Prague in 1709 .

Bishop of Königgrätz

After the death of Königgrätzer Bishop Tobias Johannes Becker , Emperor Joseph I nominated him as his successor. The papal confirmation followed on May 12th. J. The episcopal ordination took the Graner Archbishop Cardinal Christian August von Sachsen-Zeitz on June 14th. J. before, the enthronement took place on September 8, 1711.

During his tenure, the episcopal residence was completed and the canons' houses were built in 1714, and the Roman martyr Clement was appointed the patron saint of the diocese. In 1719 Johann Adam Wratislaw von Mitrowitz was also provost of All Saints in Prague.

Bishop of Leitmeritz

Since Johann Adam Wratislaw von Mitrowitz had often performed ordinations in the diocese during the absence of the Leitmeritz bishop and thus got to know the district, Emperor Karl VI nominated him . after the death of Bishop Hugo Franz von Königsegg-Rothenfels on January 9, 1721 as his successor. After the episcopal confirmation of September 24, 1721, he took up his new episcopate on May 3, 1722.

In Leitmeritz, where he had the reputation of a charitable and active pastor, he increased the number of pastoral care offices and cathedral chaplains. After the canonization of John of Nepomuk in 1729 , he arranged church celebrations in his honor in 1730.

Elevation to the Archbishop of Prague

In 1733 the emperor appointed him Archbishop of Prague. He could no longer experience the papal confirmation and the associated survey, as he died on June 2, 1733 in Mödling on a return trip from Vienna. He was buried in the Leitmeritz Cathedral .
