Emmanuel Johann Schöbel (also: Emanuel Johann Schöbel ; according to the baptism entry in the Radowenz church book page 144: Emanuel Adalbert Franz Schöbel ; Czech: Emanuel Jan Schöbel ; * February 11, 1824 in Radowenz near Trautenau ; †  November 28, 1909 in Leitmeritz ) was Bishop of Leitmeritz and Grand Master of the Knights of the Cross with the Red Star .

Career

Emanuel Johann Schoebel entered the Prague Order of the Cross with the Red Star on March 2, 1848 and was ordained a priest on June 16, 1848 . In 1852 he was promoted to Dr. theol. obtained his doctorate and taught exegesis of the Old Testament from 1853 to 1854 at the Prague Faculty of Theology . He also worked as a preacher in Franzensbad in 1854 . From 1866 to 1875 he was a professor at the German Commercial Academy in Prague. In 1879 he became Grand Master of the Order of the Cross, to which he rendered great services.

Bishop of Leitmeritz

After the death of the Leitmeritz bishop Anton Ludwig Frind , Emmanuel Johann Schöbel was appointed his successor on April 30, 1882 and was confirmed by the Pope on July 3 of the same year. The Archbishop of Prague , Cardinal Friedrich zu Schwarzenberg , donated him episcopal ordination on August 6, 1882 in Prague . Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Königgrätz , Josef Jan Hais , and the Prague Auxiliary Bishop Carl Franz Prucha . In addition to his episcopal duties, he arranged for the renovation of several churches and the seminary.
