Augustin Bartolomäus Hille (also Augustin Bartholomäus Hille ; Czech Augustin Bartoloměj Hille ); * December 2, 1786 in Großschönau ; † April 26, 1865 in Leitmeritz was from 1831 to 1865 Bishop of Leitmeritz .

Career

Augustin Bartolomäus Hille was initially a tutor. Since he wanted to become a priest, he studied philosophy and theology at the Leitmeritz seminary . On April 23, 1810 he was ordained a priest . He then worked as a chaplain and catechist in Schluckenau . From 1820 he taught pastoral theology at the diocesan educational institution in Leitmeritz, where he was appointed consistorial councilor and rector of the seminary in 1824 , an honorary canon in 1826 and canon in 1831 .

Bishop of Leitmeritz

After the elevation of the Leitmeritz bishop Vincenz Eduard Milde to Archbishop of Vienna Augustin Bartholomäus Hille was appointed as his successor. On September 19, 1832 he was ordained bishop and in 1841 he was made an honorary citizen of the city of Leitmeritz.

During his tenure in Leitmeritz from 1831 to 1865, the Marienhospital was built in 1845, the Wenceslas Church was newly consecrated and a teacher training institute was founded. After the reforms of Josephinism , the Jesuits were called to Leitmeritz and in 1850 a boys' convent was established in Oberpolitz , which was later moved to Mariaschein . In 1859 an institution for the deaf and dumb was opened. Retreats were held for the clergy and, from 1855, regular pastoral conferences were held. From 1861 Augustin Bartolomäus Hille was also a member of the Bohemian Landtag .
