Jan Baxant (born October 8, 1948 in Karlsbad , Czechoslovakia ) is a Czech clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of Leitmeritz .

Life

After studying Catholic theology Baxant received on June 23 in 1973 by the Prague archbishop František Tomášek the priesthood . The priest of the Archdiocese of Prague worked, among other things, as the rain of the Prague seminary and from the beginning of 2003 as vicar general of the diocese of Budweis (Ceské Budĕjovice).

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on October 4, 2008 as the successor to Pavel Posád Bishop of Leitmeritz. He received the episcopal ordination on November 22nd, 2008 from the Archbishop of Prague, Cardinal Miloslav Vlk . As co-consecrators of Budweiser seemed Bishop Jiří Paďour and the apostolic nuncio in the Czech Republic, Archbishop Diego Causero . Baxant is the 20th bishop of the Leitmeritz diocese, established in 1655 .
