Felipe Contepomi (born August 20, 1977 in Buenos Aires ) is a former Argentine rugby union player . He last played as a connector or inner three-quarters for Club Newman .

Career

Contepomi started playing rugby at Colegio Cardenal Newman in his hometown, at the time still in the third row . In 2000, he decided to be a professional in England to Bristol Rugby to change. At this point he had been the Argentina international for two years. There he played with his twin brother Manuel . After completing the World Cup in 2003 , he moved to Leinster Rugby in Ireland , where, in addition to playing rugby, he was also able to study medicine at the Royal College of Surgeons in Dublin . In the absence of Brian O'Driscoll , he ran on one or the other time as captain of the team.

Contepomi reached the semi-finals of the Heineken Cup with Leinster in 2006 with a surprising victory at the top seeded opponent Stade Toulousain . In the Celtic League you reached the second place twice in a row until it was enough for the title in 2008.

Contepomi celebrated the greatest success of his career so far at the 2007 World Championships , where Argentina surprisingly came third. He was next to Agustín Pichot and Juan Martín Hernández the most important player in the team that only world champions South Africa had to admit defeat.

Contepomi left Leinster at the end of the season and moved to the financially strong French club RC Toulon , where he signed a four-year contract. Due to a cruciate ligament injury, he dropped out for six months at the end of the previous season and thus missed the Heineken Cup final , which was successful for Leinster ; he was also out for the first few months of the French championship. At the beginning of the 2011/12 season he moved to Stade Français .

Contepomi is married and has one daughter.
