Hugo Franz von Königsegg-Rothenfels (also: Hugo Franz Reichsgraf von Königsegg-Rothenfels ; Czech: Hugo František Königsegg ; * May 7, 1660 in Vienna ; † September 6, 1720 in Bonn ) was Bishop of Leitmeritz .

Origin and career

His father Leopold Wilhelm von Königsegg-Rothenfels was an imperial privy councilor, chamberlain and imperial vice-chancellor . Hugo Franz studied in Salzburg from 1676 to 1680 and owned several benefices . He was:

Bishop of Leitmeritz

Although he was ordained a priest on April 11, 1705, Emperor Leopold I appointed him coadjutor of the Leitmeritz bishop Jaroslaw Ignaz von Sternberg in 1700 . After Sternberg's death, he was nominated as his successor on August 6, 1709. The papal confirmation of January 26th, 1711 followed on June 7th. J. the episcopal ordination and on November 17th d. J. taking possession of the diocese.

Since Hugo Franz Königsegg von Rothenfels held the secular office of chief court master at the Bonn court of Archbishop Joseph Clemens of Bavaria in Bonn and was also the imperial envoy to the Lower Rhine district, he rarely stayed in Leitmeritz. He left the administration of the diocese to the vicars general Hübner and Hoffer von Lohenstein and only determined the promotion and transfer of the pastors. In 1717 he set up two canons' offices with funds from the Salzkasse. The ordinations reserved for a bishop were carried out by Bishop Johann Adam Wratislaw von Mitrowitz from Königgrätz .
