Chotoviny (German Chotowin ) is a place with 1,266 inhabitants in the Jihočeský kraj region ( Czech Republic ).

history

On July 2, 1266, the place was first mentioned in a legal dispute between Hynek z Vlašima and Racek z Tožic by mentioning the witness Bořislav z Chotovin . The next written document comes from the year 1318. The place probably existed earlier. In the notes in the parish chronicle it is noted that the church was built between 990 and 1000. During excavations, skeletons and jewelry from the early Christian period were also found. Originally the place consisted of Chotoviny, a settlement around the church and Vlkančice south of the castle. Since the 16th century only the place Chotoviny is mentioned.

When King John of Luxembourg got into debt with the Lords of Rosenberg , he transferred the rule of Chotoviny to them in 1354, which they held until the 16th century. In 1407 the Rosenbergs built a fortress on the site of today's castle. In 1611 it was sold together with the village to Bohuslav Vít ze Rzavého from the family of Vítové ze Rzavého . Other important owners were the Wratislaw von Mitrowitz and the Viennese Cardinal Christoph Anton von Migazzi , who received the place in 1768 and had the castle built from 1770 to 1780 and the church completely renovated.

In 1806 Jan Nádherný , who was later raised to the nobility and whose descendants remained the owners until the end of the Second World War , acquired the rule of the Prague citizens . Baron Nádherný had the chateau rebuilt in the neo-renaissance style and laid out the chateau park. The church was also rebuilt again with his funds.

The place has been connected to the rail network since 1871.
