Francis by Paula Schönborn
Franziskus von Paula Cardinal Count von Schönborn (Czech: František Schönborn ; born January 24, 1844 in Prague , † June 25, 1899 in Falkenau an der Eger ) was cardinal and bishop of Budweis and archbishop of Prague .
Life
Schönborn came from the Bohemian line of the noble family Schönborn , his parents were Erwein Damian Hugo Graf von Schönborn (* May 17, 1812; † January 12, 1881) and Christina Maria Josefa Countess von Brühl (* March 28, 1817; † October 23, 1902 ).
He studied in Prague, Innsbruck and Rome law and theology and a doctorate in 1875 at the Gregoriana for Dr. theol.
On 25 March 1872 he received the minor orders and was on August 7, 1873 sub-deacon and on August 10, deacon . He was ordained a priest on August 15, 1873. From 1875 he worked as a chaplain in Plan near Marienbad . In 1879 he was appointed to the sub- rain and in 1882 to the rain of the Prague seminary .
Bishop of Budweis
After the death of Budweiser Bishop Jan Valerián Jirsík , Franz Joseph I , who had the right of nomination in his capacity as Emperor of Austria, appointed Francis von Paula Schönborn as his successor on August 22, 1883.
The papal confirmation of September 29, 1883 by Leo XIII. This was followed on November 18, 1883 by the episcopal ordination in the St. Salvator Church in Prague by Archbishop Friedrich Joseph Prince von Schwarzenberg and on November 25, 1883 in Budweis the enthronement .
Archbishop of Prague
After the death of Archbishop Friedrich Joseph von Schwarzenberg of Prague, Franziskus was appointed as his successor on May 21, 1885 by Paula Schönborn and was confirmed papally on July 27, 1885.
In the consistory of May 24, 1889 Schönborn was by Pope Leo XIII. created a cardinal. As a cardinal priest he received the titular church of Santi Giovanni e Paolo .
After his death on June 25, 1899, Schönborn was buried in the Prague Cathedral .
