Šimon Bárta (also: Simon Barta ; born October 27, 1864 in Schimutitz , Budweis district , Austria-Hungary ; † May 2, 1940 in Budweis , Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia ) was Bishop of Budweis .

Life

Šimon Bárta was ordained a priest on March 16, 1889 in Rome . After a chaplain activity in Sedlitz he worked as a catechist in Budweis and Pelhřimov .

After the death of Bishop Josef Antonín Hůlka from Budweis , Pope Benedict XV. on December 16, 1920 Šimon Bárta as his successor. He received his episcopal consecration on February 20, 1921 in the Budweiser Cathedral from the Prague Archbishop František Kordač . The inauguration took place at the same time.

During Bárta's tenure in 1938, as a result of the Munich Agreement, the Sudetenland was split off from Czechoslovakia . The parts of the diocese predominantly inhabited by Germans were initially administered by an episcopal commissariat in Hohenfurth . With effect from January 1, 1940, these areas were divided up and part of each was assigned to the German-speaking dioceses of Linz , St. Pölten , Passau and Regensburg across the border . Their diocesan bishops acted as administrators for the areas split off from Budweis.

Šimon Bárta died on May 2, 1940 in Schimunitz. His body was buried in the cemetery of St. Ottilien Church in Budweis. The Budweiser Bishop's Chair remained vacant until 1947.
