Martin Josef Říha (born November 11, 1839 in Oslov near Písek , † February 7, 1907 in Budweis ) was Bishop of Budweis .

Life

Martin Josef Říha was ordained a priest on July 27, 1862 in Budweis . After further studies he obtained the theological doctorate on June 11, 1869 at the University of Vienna . On October 1, 1871, he was appointed professor of moral theology at the Budweis Theological College.

After the Budweiser Bishop Franz de Paula Graf von Schönborn had been transferred to Archbishop of Prague in 1885, Franz Joseph I , who had the right to nominate in his capacity as Emperor of Austria, appointed Martin Josef Říha as his successor on July 7, 1885.

The papal confirmation of July 27, 1885 by Leo XIII. followed on September 6, 1885, the episcopal ordination and enthronement in the Budweiser Cathedral by Archbishop Franziskus von Paula Schönborn. From 1885 to 1907 he was a member of the Bohemian state parliament , from 1905 a member of the Austrian manor house . He was also awarded the Order of the Iron Crown, 2nd class. Authored numerous writings on church and religious history.
