Gottfried Kapaun von Swoykow (Czech: Bohumír Kapoun ze Svojkova , also Jan Bohumír Kapoun, svobodný pán ze Svojkova ; * February 16, 1636 , † September 18, 1701 in Chrast ) was a Roman Catholic clergyman and bishop of Königgrätz .

Origin and career

His parents were Albrecht Kapaun von Swoykow ( Vojtěch Kapoun, svobodný pán na Vodicích ), royal district chief of the Bechiner district , and Barbara Albertine, baron Wratislaw von Mitrowitz ( Vojtěška z Mitrovic ). Gottfried attended the Königgrätzer Gymnasium, then studied theology in Prague and acquired the academic degree of Dr. theol. After being ordained a priest on March 30, 1659, he became dean in Náchod in 1660 , where he was responsible for rebuilding the parish church of St. Lawrence three years later after the town fire. On the occasion of a stay in Rome, he achieved the dignity of apostolic protonotary . In 1671 he became archdeacon of Krumau and in 1675 archbishop vicar of the district of Bechin. In 1680 Emperor Leopold I appointed him Imperial Councilor and Titular Bishop of Semendria in Serbia.

Bishop of Königgrätz

After the death of the Bishop of Königgrätz, Johann Franz Christoph von Thalenberg , the emperor nominated him on September 23, 1698 as his successor. The papal confirmation of May 18, 1699 followed on June 28 of the same year the episcopal ordination by Archbishop Johann Joseph von Breuner in Prague and on September 1 of the same year . J. the enthronement. His brief tenure was insignificant. He died in the episcopal castle in Chrast and was buried in the Königgrätzer cathedral.
