Chrast is a town in Okres Chrudim in the Pardubický kraj region in the Czech Republic . It is located in the area of Českomoravská vrchovina .

history

Chrast was founded in the second half of the 13th century by the Benedictine monastery in Podlažice . After the monastery was destroyed by the Hussites , it was taken by them. Until 1427 it belonged to the Hussite captain Jakub von Kroměšín, then to Jiřík von Březovic, from whom it came to the Crown of Bohemia , which transferred the administration to the East Bohemian nobleman Wilhelm Kostka von Postupitz . After his death in 1436, King Sigismund pledged the Chrast reign to Jan Pardus of Vratkov ( Jan Pardus z Vratkova ), who handed it over to Zdeňek Kostka von Postupitz, who remained with his descendants until 1539. They were followed by the Slavata von Chlum and Koschumberg . Under Albrecht Slavata von Koschumberg, a castle in the Renaissance style was built in the second half of the 16th century . At the beginning of the 17th century Chrast came to the Berka von Dubá , from which it passed to the Schwanberger . In 1664 it was acquired by the Prague Archbishop Ernst Adalbert von Harrach , who transferred it to the newly founded Diocese of Königgrätz for its financial support.

After the abolition of patrimonial Chrast formed an independent municipality from 1850. In 1853 it was promoted to town. In 1868 Chrast received a railway connection on the Havlíčkův Brod – Pardubice railway , which resulted in an economic boom. In addition, the Hrochův Týnec – Chrast u Chrudimi railway ended here .
