Podlažice is a district of the town Chrast in the Okres Chrudim of Pardubický kraj in eastern Bohemia . The village is two kilometers southeast of Chrast on the left bank of the Žejbro .
history
Podlažice was first mentioned in 1159 as the seat of the Benedictine monastery Podlažice . The Codex Gigas , a spiritual Latin manuscript with a baptismal liturgy and Bible texts , was created here in the 13th century .
In 1421 the Podlažice monastery was destroyed by the Hussites .
An inventory from 1406 is now in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Hradec Králové , and a bronze crucifix from the 13th century is in the Chrast Museum.
Today you can still see the remains of the monastery brewery.
