geography

history

Zaječice was first mentioned in a document in 1319 in connection with the conviction of the owner Přibík of Zaječice for robbery. Frequent changes of rule followed:

After the death of the wife of Kuneš von Ujest, the village fell to the Bohemian King Wenceslaus IV in 1358. In 1397 the Lords von Sternberg acquired the lands and ruled until 1473, seven years later the lands passed to Viktorin von Kunčí, who later became the primator by Chrudim . From 1521 Zaječice belonged to the domain of the lords of Janovsko on Soužice, during this time the first written mention of the fortress falls in 1529. By marriage in 1580 the Robmhápů von Suché family received the place. The village was later confiscated and passed on to Jan Weber von Spitzenberg (Latin: Pisenberg) in 1625. In 1655 his daughter initially wanted to sell the property to Karl Ferdinand Graf von Waldstein . After he couldn't pay, it went to Lambert František Hřebenáč von Harrach . In 1685 Augustin Norbert Woracziczky von Pabienitz bought the village, which was taken over in 1697 by Josef Franz Graf von Schönfeld .

In 1755 the fortress was declared abandoned. At that time, the Auersperg family owned it and held it until 1918.

Zaječice has a rich cultural tradition. The folklore group "Kohoutek" was founded here and events and exhibitions as well as international chess tournaments take place regularly in the House of Culture .
