Žumberk (German Schumberg , older originally Sonnenberg ) is a Městys with 230 inhabitants in Pardubický kraj ( Czech Republic ). It lies on the right-hand side above the Ležák valley on the slope of the red-colored Schumberg granite mountains, which are extracted here in the quarries.
history
In 2007 the place received the status of Městys back.
Place name
The place name is derived from the onomastic Profous as follows. First the place was originally called Sonnenberg (Sunenberk) in 1350, then in 1366 Sommerberg (Somerberg), then Zumberg, Schumberg, and also Schutzburg.
Local division
The districts Částkov ( Tschastkau ) and Prostějov ( Prostejow , older also Prostiegiow , Prostegow ) belong to the municipality Žumberk .
