The village initially belonged to the Knights of Kostel, later to the Knights of Mrdice, who founded the town of Heřmanmiestetz in the first half of the 14th century. The following owners from 1457 to 1538 included the Lords Trčka von Lípa , from 1552 the Andiel von Ronowec, from 1596 the Lords von Zierotin , from 1611 the Berka von Dubá , from 1661 the Counts von Sporck , from 1798 the Barons von Greiffenclau and from 1828 the princes Kinsky .

In 1835 the village of Kosteletz in the Chrudim district consisted of 55 houses in which 401 people lived. There was a branch church of St. Peter and Paul, a stately hunter's house, two mills and a boardsaw. The village was parish to the parish church Heřmanmiestetz . Until the middle of the 19th century Kosteletz remained subject to the allodial rule of Heřmanmiestetz.

After the abolition of patrimonial formed Kostelec / Kosteletz 1849 with the districts Tasovice and Zdechovice a municipality in the judicial district Chrudim . From 1868 the municipality belonged to the political district of Chrudim . A school was built in the second half of the 19th century. In 1875 a lime distillery with a shaft furnace was built in which Prachowitz lime was processed. 1881–1882 the Přelouč – Kalkpodol railway was built . During this time, the village, which is situated in a wooded area, was increasingly visited by day trippers; the St. Wenceslas spring at Kalkpodol and the healing spring at Baukalka were within walking distance. Since 1924 the municipality has been using the official name Kostelec u Heřmanova Městce to distinguish it from Vrbatův Kostelec . In 1939 the Konopáč swimming pool opened north of the village. The lime kiln was shut down in 1941 and the shaft furnace was demolished in the second half of the 20th century. The district of Zdechovice was reassigned to Úherčice in 1949 . In 1960 the school was closed. At the beginning of 1989 Kostelec u Heřmanova Městce was incorporated into Heřmanův Městec . The parish has existed again since August 31, 1990.
