Hamry (German Hammer ) is a municipality in the Czech Republic . It is located three kilometers southeast of Hlinsko on the Chrudimka and belongs to the Okres Chrudim .

geography

Hamry is located on the northern edge of the Saar mountains on the upper reaches of the Chrudimka , which is dammed above the village in the Hamry dam. In the northeast rises the 697 m high Pešava.

Neighboring towns are Svatojánské Lázně and Blatno in the north, Jeníkov and Kameničky in the east, Lány in the southeast, Vortová and Lhoty in the south, Zalíbené in the southeast, Studnice in the west and Kouty and Hlinsko in the northwest.

history

The place was first mentioned in 1392 as Přerostlé . At that time the owner was Smil Flaška z Pardubic on Richenburg .

In the 15th and 16th centuries, iron hammers were in operation in Přerostlé and Hamřík to the north. During this heyday, the hammer masters achieved wealth and privileges. The hammer in Přerostlé continued to be used until the 18th century, when the settlement was called Přerostlé Hamry. In 1785 a one-class village school was established.

The Svatojánské Lázně spa was built north of the village in the 17th century and administered therapeutic cures until the beginning of the 19th century.

After the hammer was shut down, the water power of the Chrudimka was used in the 19th century to operate three water mills, an oil mill and a sawmill. By 1900 Hamry had 580 inhabitants and consisted of 100 houses.

In 1907 the construction of the dam began southeast of the village. The building, completed in 1912, with one of the first embankments in Bohemia, serves to supply drinking water to the regions of Hlinsko, Trhová Kamenice and Havlíčkův Brod .
