Coordinates: 38 ° 5 ′  S , 145 ° 18 ′  E Casey City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria . Casey belongs to the metropolis Melbourne , the capital of Victoria. The area is 395 km² and has around 300,000 inhabitants, making it the most populous administrative area in the city. It is also Victoria's fastest growing LGA. It is named after Richard Casey, Baron Casey .

Casey is located about 50 km from Melbourne city center on the southeastern edge of the inner metropolitan area north of Western Port Bay and contains 29 districts: Berwick , Blind Bight, Cannons Creek, Clyde, Clyde North, Cranbourne, Cranbourne East, Cranbourne North, Cranbourne South , Cranbourne West, Devon Meadows, Doveton, Endeavor Hills, Eumemmerring, Five Ways, Hallam, Hampton Park, Harkaway, Junction Village, Lynbrook, Lysterfield South, Merinda Park, Narre Warren, Narre Warren North, Narre Warren South, Pearcedale, Tooradin and Warneet. The City Council is based in Narre Warren in the north of the LGA.

Casey consists of flat land that was used as farmland by the first settlers in the 19th century and is still used today for outdoor growing of fruit and vegetables.

In Narre Warren, the district with the greatest growth in the city, you will find the Fountain Gate Shopping Center, one of the largest shopping centers in Australia.

The Berwick Campus of Monash University , which opened in 1996, is more recent . About 2000 students attend the faculties for economics, communication and multimedia as well as urban, regional planning and tourism.

Casey City is twinned with the English city of Berwick-upon-Tweed .

Casey City Council has eleven members elected by residents of the six wards (two each from Four Oaks, Edrington, River Gum, Springfield, and Mayfield, a Councilor from Balla Balla). These six districts are determined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.

Others

The Cranbourne meteorites are named after their location near the “Cranbourne” district.
