Coordinates: 35 ° 20 ′ S , 143 ° 33 ′ E The Rural City of Swan Hill is a local administrative area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria around the city of Swan Hill . The area is 6115.3 km² and has about 20,600 inhabitants.
The rural community of Swan Hill is about 350 km from the capital Melbourne on the north-western border of Victoria and includes the following localities: Lake Boga, Manangatang, Nyah, Nyah West, Piangil, Robinvale, Tresco, Ultima, Woorinen South and Swan Hill . The seat of the Rural City Council is in the town of Swan Hill, with a population of around 10,000, in the southeast of the LGA on the border with New South Wales .
The agricultural region got its importance from the river port Swan Hill on the Murray River . It is a well-known wine-growing area, and grain is also one of the most important crops.
Due to the river and its foothills, the area is also known for fishing and is also a tourist destination for anglers and water sports enthusiasts.

The Swan Hill Rural City Council has seven members who are elected by residents of the four wards. Two Councilors each come from Castle Donnington, Murray-Mallee and Lakes Ward, and one from Robinvale. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
