Coordinates: 36 ° 5 ' S , 143 ° 13' O Shire of Buloke is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria . The area is 8000.4 km² and has about 6200 inhabitants.
Buloke is located in northwest Victoria about 350 km away from the capital Melbourne and includes the following towns: Birchip, Charlton, Donald, Sea Lake, Wycheproof, Berriwillock, Culgoa, Nandaly, Nullawil and Watchem. The seat of the City Council is in the village Wycheproof in the southern half of the LGA, in which about 590 inhabitants live.
The area belongs to the Mallee region, the driest and hottest region of Victoria. On the flat, low-lying land, mainly grain is grown and cattle ranched. Buloke is included in the Wheat belt of Victoria.
The Mallee was a former sea basin and agriculture has to struggle with the salty soil and groundwater. In addition, the last few rainy years have worsened the situation in the region.
administration
The Buloke Shire Council has nine members elected by the residents of the three wards (three councilors each from Mallee, Mount Jeffcott, and Lower Avoca). The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
