Coordinates: 37 ° 57 ′  S , 145 ° 9 ′  E Greater Dandenong City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria . Greater Dandenong belongs to the metropolis of Melbourne , the capital of Victoria. The area is 130 km² and has about 150,000 inhabitants.

Greater Dandenong is located 25 to 40 km southeast of Melbourne city center and contains ten neighborhoods: Bangholme, Dandenong , Dandenong North, Dandenong South, Keysborough, Lyndhurst, Noble Park, Noble Park North, Springvale and Springvale South . The seat of the City Council is in Dandenong in the east of the LGA.

Dandenong is the second largest commercial and financial center in Melbourne, with over 7,000 stores. The cultural diversity is greatest here, the inhabitants come from 151 nations, half of them were born abroad. In addition to metal processing, many companies in the food industry are based here.

The Greater Dandenong City Council has eleven members who are elected by the residents of the eleven wards. These eleven boroughs (Cleeland, Dandenong, Dandenong North, Keysborough, Keysborough South, Lyndale, Noble Park, Noble Park North, Springvale Central, Springvale North and Springvale South) are defined independently of the districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
