Coordinates: 38 ° 23 '  S , 142 ° 29'  O Warrnambool City is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria the city Warrnambool . The area is 120.9 km² and has about 33,700 inhabitants.

Warrnambool is located about 265 km west of the capital Melbourne on the south coast of Victoria and contains seven localities: Allansford , Bushfield, Dennington, Illowa, Warrnambool , Woodford and Yangery. The seat of the City Council is in the port city of Warrnambool in the south of the LGA, where about 30,700 inhabitants live. The city is surrounded inland by the Moyne Shire .

The natural harbor on Lady Bay was already settled around 1840 and gained great importance in the gold rush era. Today Warrnambool is the largest city in the southwest region and a service and trade center.

The Warrnambool City Council has seven members who are elected by LGA residents. Warrnambool is not divided into districts. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
