Coordinates: 36 ° 45 '  S , 145 ° 34'  O Strathbogie Shire is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Victoria . The area is 3303.3 km² and has about 10,300 inhabitants.

Strathbogie is centrally located in Victoria about 120 km north of the capital Melbourne . The area includes: Graytown, Goulburn Weir, Bailieston, Longwood, Nagambie, Miepoll, Mtchellstown, Murchison, Locksley, Violet Town, Euroa, Avenel, Luffy and the town of Strathbogie. The seat of the City Council is located in the city of Euroa with a population of around 2900 in the east of the LGA.

The Shire is called "Horse Capital of Victoria" because of the very successful breeding of racehorses on various studs in the area. Sheep breeding, agriculture and especially wine growing along the Goulburn River and the hilly region of the Strathbogie Ranges also characterize the region . Many Melbourne residents are drawn to the area on the Hume Highway between Victoria's capital and Sydney as a second home close to the city.

The Nagambie Lakes in western Strathbogies, created by the Goulburn Weir reservoirs on the Goulburn River, are not only a popular water sports attraction for tourists, but also a center of rowing in Australia.

administration

The Strathbogie Shire Council has seven members who are elected by residents of the six wards. Of these six counties, Goulburn, Honeysuckle Creek, Hughes Creek, Lake Nagambie and Mount Wombat make up one each, and Seven Creeks make up two councils. The mayor of the council is also recruited from among the councilors.
