List of train stations in Japan |
The Ōsaki Station ( Jap. 大崎駅 , Ōsaki-eki ) is located in Shinagawa in Tokyo .
Osaki Station is one of the stations where trains on the Yamanote Line turn around, start operating, and end. In order to avoid any obstruction to passing trains, this station has four tracks that are only used by the Yamanote line. The Saikyō Line begins and the Rinkai Line ends here.
history
On February 25, 1901, the station was opened and started operating. Goods handling began on October 14, 1902 . Ōsaki has been served by the Yamanote Line since October 21, 1909 and was destroyed in a fire on May 24, 1945 by an air raid during World War II. On October 1st, 1980 the handling of goods was stopped. Since March 16, 1996 and December 1, 2002, the Saikyō and Rinkai lines have also been at the station.
Type of construction and tracks
The station is built in the most common design of a station in the form of a through station. The 8 tracks are served by 4 central platforms . Tracks 1 to 4 are only used by the Yamanote line, tracks 1 and 2 towards Shinagawa and Tokyo , and tracks 3 and 4 towards Shibuya and Ikebukuro . One track in each direction is used to start and end operations so as not to obstruct the trains passing through. Tracks 5 to 8 are used in parallel by the Saikyō and Rinkai lines, while the trains of the Shōnan-Shinjuku line are also used on tracks 5 and 8 .
