The Ebisu Station ( Jap. 恵比寿駅 , Ebisu-eki ) is a railway junction in Tokyo and is located in Shibuya in the local district Ebisuminami 1-chome ( 恵比寿南1丁目 ). The name of the station is derived from a beer produced in the formerly nearby Sapporo brewery for whose transport the station was originally built. The beer, in turn, was named after the Japanese god of happiness Ebisu .

Type of construction and tracks

The station is built in the most common design of a station in the form of a through station. The four tracks of the JR station run in a north-south direction along two central platforms .

The two tracks of the Hibiya line of the Tokyo Metro are located underground, they run in an east-west direction.

Station melody

Two excerpts from the theme song from the film The Third Man are used on the tracks of the JR train station . One of the two cutouts is used on tracks 1 and 2 as well as on tracks 3 and 4. The melody on the odd tracks is played by a zither , the melody on the even tracks is played by a steel pan .

This melody was chosen because it was used by the Sapporo brewery, which was once in the neighborhood, to advertise one of the beers produced there.
